Who Should Attend
This educational activity is specifically designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, and other health care practitioners involved or interested in the psychopharmacologic and psychosocial care of patients with psychotic and mood disorders and as well as their co-morbidities.
Objectives
After successful completion of this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- Review the molecular interaction through which antipsychotic agents elicit their pharmacological effects
- Comment on the role of polypharmacy in schizophrenia
- Outline a therapeutic strategy to overcome refractory psychosis
- Describe treatment approaches that circumvent and/or manage challenging clinical problems associated with psychosis such as substance abuse, violence, and suicide
- Discuss early detection and treatment strategies for first-episode psychosis
- Summarize available and emerging treatment options for schizophrenia
- Discuss the development of novel therapies targeting new molecular pathways in mood disorders
- Summarize available therapeutic options for unipolar and bipolar depression
- Incorporate into clinical practice most favorable treatment modality specific for women that are pregnant or wanting to become pregnant
- Adapt a measurement-based care approach to facilitate individualized patient management based upon dose optimization, disease progression,therapeutic tolerability and sequencing algorithms
- Expand the therapeutic armamentarium for treatment-resistant mood and anxiety disorders including obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder
