This educational activity is specifically designed for hematologists, internists, oncologists, and other physicians, physicians-in-training, and healthcare professionals (nurses and pharmacists) interested in and/or involved in the care of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
This stimulating Webcast is taken directly from the symposium held at the American Society of Hematology annual meeting on December 7, 2007 and is titled “ Great Debates in CLL: Facing Today’s Controversies and Tomorrow’s Challenges.” Dr Susan O’ Brien chaired the innovative symposium that included debates and didactic presentations focused on issues in CLL, such as first-line therapy, relapsed/refractory disease, treatment of minimal residual disease, and novel emerging therapies.
Upon completion of this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- State the rationale for treating or not treating patients with CLL
- Describe and discuss the value of molecular and biologic markers in determining prognosis and planning treatment for patients with CLL
- Compare and contrast the various therapeutic regimens used as first-line treatments for CLL
- Explain the different treatment options for managing minimal residual CLL disease
- Design appropriate therapeutic plan(s) for the effective management of relapsed and refractory disease in CLL
- Discuss the recent clinical trials looking at new treatment modalities for CLL and explain how these modalities will be applied in the future
