Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for oncologists, radiation therapists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, and other physicians in active clinical practice interested and/or involved in the management of patients with thoracic cancer.

Webcast Overview
This e-learning activity is a Webcast of the entire 12th Annual Perspectives in Thoracic Oncology meeting, which was held in New York City on November 16-17, 2007 and was chaired by Dr Corey Langer. A thorough agenda including various presentations on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy, prognostication utilizing molecular markers, novel targeted therapies, and various other intriguing topics comprise the meeting. Roundtable and panel discussions add interest and an interactive component to the format of this highly instructive Webcast.

Educational Objectives
After successfully completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the pathogenesis of lung cancer and concepts in prevention
  • Discuss and evaluate the available methods for staging lung cancer
  • Recommend the most appropriate management strategies for NSCLC, including selecting patients for therapy
  • Recommend the most appropriate management strategies for small cell lung cancer
  • Identify controversies in management of locally advanced NSCLC
  • Translate the results of recent clinical trials in lung cancer and incorporate them into clinical practice
  • Outline management strategies for esophageal cancer
  • Outline management strategies for mesothelioma
  • Outline management strategies for thymoma
  • Describe promising new targeted and immunomodulatory agents for the treatment of thoracic malignancies
  • Discuss surgical issues and controversies related to treatment of thoracic cancer
