Target Audience
This educational activity is specifically designed for hematologists, internists, oncologists and other physicians, physicians-in-training, and healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists) interested in and/or involved in the care of patients with myeloproliferative diseases and myelodysplastic syndromes.

Webcast Overview
The 4th International Congress of Myeloproliferative Diseases and Myelodysplastic Syndromes, chaired by Dr Richard Silver and co-chaired by Dr Jerry Spivak, was held on November 8-10, 2007 in Brooklyn, New York and drew on the expertise of 28 internationally known leaders in the fields of molecular biology, pathology, immunology, and translational and clinical research to lead the discussion on the cutting edge topics in this field. This Webcast is an online representation of the entire congress and provides a stimulating program for all those who are interested in normal and dysfunctional myeloid cell development, trafficking, pathology, and treatment.

Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize the molecular mechanisms, biology, and drug targets of the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative diseases (MPD)
  • Translate current controversies in management of MDS and MPD into improved patient outcomes
  • Implement new treatment modalities in MDS and MPD
  • Review the latest updates in overcoming drug resistance for MDS and MPD
  • Discuss the pipeline of novel agents for MDS and MPD and their impact on future patient care
