Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for cardiologists, internists, general practitioners, cardiovascular surgeons, and other health care professionals in active clinical practice involving the management of patients with cardiovascular disease.

Webcast Overview
This Webcast includes 4 remarkable presentations from the 34th Annual Williamsburg Conference on Heart Disease, which took place in Williamsburg, Virginia on December 2-4, 2007. Highlighting fascinating concepts of current management of cardiovascular disease, this online activity includes such topics as “The Emerging Role of Biomarkers in CVD: Present State and Future Challenges” and “Hyperglycemia and Acute Coronary Syndromes: A Target for Intervention?” Unanswered questions in heart failure and practical implications of chronic kidney disease as a cardiovascular risk state are also discussed in presentations included in the video.

Educational Objectives
After successful completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify current and potential biomarkers of cardiovascular disease and determine their availability for practical and clinical application
  • Examine the role of comorbidities associated with cardiovascular disease, including hyperglycemia and diabetes, insulin resistance, and chronic kidney disease
  • Highlight important concepts in heart failure including treatment and prevention
